Preamble to the Constitution of The American Legion

For God and Country

We associate ourselves together for the following purposes:

To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of
America; to maintain law and order;

To foster and perpetuate a one hundred percent Americanism;

To preserve the memories and incidents of our
associations in the great wars;

To inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation;

To combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses;

To make right the master of might; to promote peace and
goodwill on earth;

To safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of
justice, freedom and democracy;

To consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by our devotion
to mutual helpfulness.

"There is nothing wrong with America that the faith, love of freedom, intelligence and energy of her citizens cannot cure." Dwight D Eisenhowser, 34th President, 1890-1969

COMRADERY! ADVOCACY! PRIDE! One of these words probably explains why your membership in the American Legion is important to YOU. But do you know how important YOUR membership is to the American Legion; especially to YOUR Department and Post? YOUR membership allows us to continue the many worthwhile programs of the American Legion, both locally and nationally. These programs include Scouting, Baseball, Boys State, and Girls State just to name a few. And while this is being done, the American Legion still remains vigilant and ready to defend the rights of veterans, and the Constitution of the United States. These are just a few examples of what YOU make possible with your membership support. YOU and every Legionnaire are an important part of The world's largest veterans organization, and together, we will remain strong and our record of service and accomplishment will go on.

Join today take and advantage of the benefits of being a Legionnaire and to be part of The American Legion, at the Joseph Loeffler Post 1006 in Brentwood. Please don't let your DD214 sit idle, you earned it so put it to good use today! Remember, we have been there: WW I, WW II, Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon/Grenada, Panama, the Persian Gulf. We walked in YOUR boots.
