The History of Father's Day.
Father's day did not become a nationally recognized holiday until 1972, when President R. Nixon signed it into law.
Many thank Sonora S. Dowd who wanted to honor her father, a Civil War veteran in 1909. She petitioned for it to fall on June 5th, the anniversary of her father's death in Spokane, WA. It was moved to the third Sunday of June.
Many thank Grace G. Clayton in 1908 for the holiday. She came up with the holiday to celebrate the 361 local men that died in a mine explosion in Fairmont, WV. I'll leave it up to you readers to pick which ever one you like. For you Fathers, enjoy YOUR DAY !!!!!
